Metabolic and Bariatric Outcomes of Elderly Patients after Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Ramandeep Kaur
Background
The growing popularity of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has shown safe and efficacious results in bariatric populations, but it’s safety and effectiveness in the elderly is uncertain.
Methods
A retrospective review will be performed of all patients aged >60 years who underwent LSG from 2009 to 2018. These patients will be matched in a 1:2 ratio by gender and body mass index (BMI) to young patients 18<age<60 years. Data analysed will be patient demographics, resolution of obesity-related comorbidities, preoperative and postoperative BMI, excess weight loss percentage (EWL%) and postoperative complications. A 1, 3 and 5 year follow-up of weight reduction results will be conducted.
